The Role of Video in Tech & Innovation Events: A Look at Emerge Americas

Key Takeaway:

  • How organizations can use event recap videos to drive engagement beyond the conference floor.
  • Best practices for producing high-impact video content at live conferences and using footage to build a brand and attract long-term support.

In 2015, Miami’s tech scene was still finding its footing. There were whispers of innovation, startups testing the waters, and a hunger to be recognized as more than just a vacation destination. That’s when eMerge Americas emerged with a bold idea, to unite the global tech ecosystem in the gateway to Latin America.

And they needed someone to capture it.

As they planned their very first conference, the team behind eMerge knew they had one chance to show the world what they were building. That’s where Two Parrot Productions came in. Our job was to document the energy, ambition, and vibrancy of this three-day event, and turn that into a story powerful enough to fuel future momentum.

The Challenge: Capture Everything, Deliver Fast

The inaugural eMerge conference was a full-spectrum experience. Keynote speeches from tech titans. Workshops and panels with startup founders. Investor meetings. Demos. Fashion shows with LED-lit garments. Rooftop cocktail hours. Networking brunches. Afterparties. There was no shortage of content, and no room for error.

Our team was embedded on-site for all three days, cameras rolling nearly nonstop. But filming was only half the job. We were also tasked with creating a highlight video to premiere at the closing session. That meant we were editing on location, in real time, while continuing to shoot new material.

“It was a high-speed, high-stakes environment. Our job wasn’t just to film, we were building a story while the story was still happening.”

Strategic Storytelling: Three Videos, Three Audiences

One of the most impactful decisions we made on this project was to tailor our deliverables for different audiences. From the same mountain of footage, we created three distinct videos:

  1. A high-energy sizzle reel for general attendees and social sharing
  2. A mission-driven piece that communicated eMerge’s vision to the press, civic leaders, and local communities
  3. A sponsor-facing video designed to attract funding and future partners

Each version used a different narrative tone, curated footage, and handpicked interviews to speak directly to its target audience.

This strategy helped eMerge not only recap the event, it helped them secure credibility, funding, and buy-in from future supporters.

“Video isn’t just a recap tool, it’s a persuasion tool. The right edits, the right message, and the right music can turn an event into a movement.”
Dr. Jessica Kizorek

Editing On-Site: Why Speed Matters

Because we were editing in real time, the conference organizers were able to show a polished, emotional, and dynamic recap video on the final day of the event. It gave attendees a sense of closure and inspiration, and it left an impression on potential partners watching from the sidelines.

That closing video became the cornerstone of their brand. It explained their mission visually, helped fundraise for future years, and is still referenced nearly a decade later.

For organizations producing live events, this is one of the most powerful ways to extend the life of a moment: capture it, shape it, and deploy it while the energy is still fresh.

Creative Choices That Made It Work

Some elements that brought this project to life:

  • Multi-cam coverage to capture simultaneous sessions
  • Time-stamped footage ingestion for rapid editing workflow
  • Interviews with speakers, attendees, and sponsors conducted on-site
  • Branded motion graphics and lower-thirds that aligned with the eMerge identity
  • Music selection designed to evoke excitement and momentum
  • LED fashion runway shots that gave the video an unforgettable visual hook

The Power of Matching Grants

This project was also a great example of a matching grant structure. eMerge had a fixed video budget, and our nonprofit partner, Eyes On Your Mission, stepped in to match that investment through pro bono services and creative support.

This sliding-scale model made the project feasible for the client while allowing us to deliver broadcast-quality content that would typically exceed the available budget.

“We believe in meeting our partners where they are. When a project has purpose, we find a way to make the math work.”
Dr. Jessica Kizorek

Long-Term Impact

The success of that first video project helped eMerge Americas attract sponsors and partners who have now supported the conference year after year. What began as a single event has grown into one of the most anticipated tech gatherings in the Americas.

And it all started with a clear message, a tight turnaround, and the ability to visually tell a story people wanted to be part of.

Final Thoughts

Live events are fleeting. But a great event video captures the energy, extends the message, and keeps the momentum alive. At Two Parrot Productions, we don’t just film conferences. We help launch legacies.

If your organization is planning a major event, especially one with high visibility and long-term goals, consider partnering with a team that can do more than document. We help you inspire.

👉 Let’s collaborate

Emerge Americas is a conference in Miami that brings together the tech community. When they were planning their first event, back in 2015 (confirm this date), they were planning the conference and they needed someone that they could trust to capture all the different content of the conference. So the conference was for 3 days straight and we filmed everything from fashion runways with LED-light clothing to Keynote speeches, workshops, dinner parties, cocktail hours and not only did we film everything over the course of 3 days but we also edited a final video for the closing of the conference and we edited that on site as we went. We produced 3 videos from this one conference for 3 different target audiences. We used different interviews and different videos from the conference but the video we captured on site became the cornerstone of their physical brand and we did the creative production to help them explain their mission and get other sponsors on board. This was one of the biggest things of this project which was to show people what they wanted to do and once they showed people this video they had a lot more supporters, sponsors and donors help them perpetuate this conference year after year for the last decade. This project was a great example of a matching grant where the client pitched in a set amount, and Eyes On Your Mission and Two Parrot Productions met them halfway or it could be like a sliding scale. I’ve remained friendly with the client over the years.
